Old Growth Collective is a cannabis company based in Victoria, British Columbia. This dedicated group of artisans has been growing cannabis since well before it was legal. They are artisans, with a deep commitment to their craft, and are highly knowledgable about what it takes to grow a pure and and unique flower.
Our concept behind the design of this brand was entitles Handmade in BC. We wanted to show the craft that these growers are known for, the history, and the perfection. And, of course, quintessential British Columbia.
Primary Logo
We wanted the identity of craft, and committed practice to show through the brand at all times. I designed a typeface uniquely for Old Growth Collective. Created with circles, and tall strokes, the letters are inspired by the old growth forest that remains in Victoria, British Columbia. The texture gives the logo the feeling of being hand drawn or stamped.

Colour Palette
Since we wanted the British Columbia identity built into the brand, we chose colours that specifically related to the nature of BC. Lush forests, the ocean, sunsets over the mountains, and farming. This is how we came to our very natural, yet bright colour palette.

Graphic Elements
In creating other elements for the brand, we thought about what else would play a significant role in growing the quality of flower that OGC created. We created hand illustrated weather patters, for different types of weather that might affect the growth.
Harkening back to pre-legalization, we created hand drawn maps, where a grower may have had to use had made maps to keep their growths hidden, and in order to find them. These maps can be used in two fashions; detailed maps, or light background accents.

Photography Style
In the colour palette we used nature to pick the colours. When it came to photography, we made sure to apply the same colour palette to the photos we chose. The photography is meant to show the lifestyle behind this brand. The farmers don't live in cities; they are right in the forest, in cabins. We wanted to show the people behind the flower.
